By now you should have heard all the buzz surrounding Clubhouse – the new app that allows people around the world to come together to talk, listen and learn from each other in real-time.

If you have been fortunate enough to have received an invite to join, you know there are many great things going on on the platform. It can be entertaining and informative, but did you know it can also help you meet new people and grow your wallet? If you are a member of Clubhouse follow these five tips to get the most of the latest and hottest platform since the Gram.

1.) Have a plan and strategy

Curate a hallway that will open up doors for opportunity and growth.  Deciding how to use the app and strategizing on your movement will help you monetize. Sure, many will use it for clout or popularity, but you are here to make money.  Your plan should outline:

  • Positioning:  How do you want to be seen or heard by others?

  • Goals: Jot down 3- CH goals. It can be related or anything (revenue, engagement, positioning, etc.)

  • Ideal Clients:  Who are they, what do they do, where do they hang out?

  • Ideal Collaboration: What types of businesses and people do you see yourself working with.

  • Scheduling: This app can consume all of your time if you let it.  Create a schedule, stick to it.

Next should be a strategy on how you will reach these goals:

  • Positioning: Creating a consistent brand with curated topics and rooms that you are a regular contributor to.  Build a network.

  • Goals: How long are you giving yourself to achieve these goals?

  • Ideal Clients: How are you going to engage with them and turn leads into opportunities?

  • Ideal Collaboration:  How are you going to approach other businesses and professionals while showing value?

  • Scheduling:  How many hours a week and what days will you dedicate to this platform?  Think about time allocation for being on stage and listening to rooms.

2.) Position yourself as a leader and solution in your career/business industry

Do not be afraid to contribute to the conversation and position yourself as a leader of your industry.  If you are Guru, then make sure the room knows it. It is no secret that users check your bio on Clubhouse for Twitter and IG handles, email, and the value you bring.

Create a catchy line that will get people excited about you, promote yourself or your business, and then follow it with your impact.  Employees, businesses, and collaborators will begin following you and adding you to stages where your opinion is valued, and referrals are plentiful.

Utilize the first three lines to position yourself, draw people in, and set yourself apart.  It would be best to inform your audience of any deliverables you have available for purchase, services, and speaking engagements/projects.  The people and money will come.

3.) Network

Join clubs that share your values, interests, and goals. Find CEOs, recruiters, business owners, and leaders that are not on Clubhouse that you already know or have connections with.  Send them a LinkedIn message with a warm greeting, a reminder of your professional relationship, and a brief introduction to Clubhouse.  Be sure to include how it has helped you and that you want to share a free invite with them to get them started on the platform.  Give them a tutorial, help them curate their hallway, and create an introduction room.

Remember, this is not Instagram, discord, or any other social media platform.  The physical element outside of your profile picture is not present, and your voice is your biggest asset. Connect with people that make sense – listen to individuals talk before you decide to connect.  Do not be afraid to check LinkedIn or other social media platforms for authenticity and fact-checking. Be sure to connect with people on LinkedIn and send a message explaining who you are, why you want to join, and where (Room or Club) you heard them speak.

4.) Add value with control

Do not believe that you have to give away all that you know while letting people walk away with a blueprint to solidify yourself on the platform.  Be sure to give just enough to excite the listener, but be sure to share your email, website, or social media for individuals interested in learning more.

Using a simple template that outlines what you are willing to discuss and what becomes a consultation or opportunity will help you keep from spilling all of the beans.  Many subject matter experts and leaders have spent years gaining knowledge and experience, costing them thousands and thousands of dollars; let’s not give it all away on a free app.

5.) Add your payment information

You never know who is listening or wants to contribute to your mission.  Be sure to add your Cash App and other payment options to receive tips and/or donations. Using an app like Fanbase can also allow you to create content and get paid for it.

BONUS: Keep track of the rooms and clubs you speak in on a Google doc or in your notes. Includes the number of people that joined the room, the moderators, topics, and subjects.  Doing his will help you keep track of your impact and give you a reference to include on your speaker sheet when pitching for speaking engagements, engagement metrics, and impact.
